World Mental Health Day | Monday 10 October 2022

Today is World Mental Health Day. At Northern Gas and Power, we’d like to take this opportunity to provide a reminder of the many ways we can access the support available to us all to help look after our mental health.

The theme of World Mental Health Day 2022 is ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority’.

Our priority at Northern Gas and Power has long been the wellbeing of our colleagues and customers.

World Mental Health Day is also an important opportunity to talk about mental health in general. We should be able to discuss ways of looking after our mental health. We should understand how important it is to feel free to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

Internal support at NGP

People Team 

The People Team at NGP are always on hand to support colleagues who may be struggling with any issue, including with mental health.

Our People Team have also compiled a range of resources, documents and support guides which detail ways to access support in a number of areas, including mental health and wellbeing.

We’ve created a bespoke inbox for NGP colleagues where they can suggest any further areas of mental health support for our People Team to cover.

Mental Health First Aiders 

We have been working on developing our own internal network of qualified Mental Health First Aiders across the business, who are always on hand to provide support to colleagues.

We have Mental Health First Aiders stationed at each of our offices in the UK.

External support

The Samaritans offer emotional support 24 hours a day – in full confidence.

If you’re experiencing a personal crisis, are unable to cope and need support.

Shout can help with urgent issues such as:

You can call the Rethink advice and information line Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm for practical advice on:

  • Different types of therapy and medication
  • Benefits, debt, money issues
  • Police, courts, prison
  • Your rights under the Mental Health Act.

Worrying is a natural response to life’s problems. But when it takes over and we can start to feel overwhelmed, it can really help to take a step back and break things down.

Learning new ways to work through your problems can make them feel more manageable and improve your mental and physical wellbeing.
