Unemployment rise in the North East

Recent news of the rise in unemployment across North East England is sobering.

There is so much latent talent in the region, which possesses some of the best universities across the UK.

Equally, there is an emerging, exciting tech base of start-up businesses – ripe to grow and in need of all the support they can access from incubator and funding networks to nurture them to bigger, better things.

News of the imminent arrival of a BBC tech hub in Newcastle will also be great for the region, creating a galvanising effect around which a cluster of competitive media and tech businesses can emerge.

The North East LEP has called for more and better jobs here as it knows this is vital to the region’s economic competitiveness. So their support of the key economic drivers across the region has never been more important. And the North East Chamber of Commerce has a vital role to play too listening to business feedback and helping to formulate plans of future action.

Equally the entrepreneurs who pursue their business dreams are vital to us turning around this current economic picture. It really is their dynamism, courage and vision that will help us along a road to greater prosperity, creating sustainable, well-paid, attractive jobs for the future.

The future of the energy industry is truly exciting, with innovative ideas transforming the pace and scale of change. IoT, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence … these are just some of the modern economic advancements which will impact hugely on a turnaround here in North East England.

The recent news on unemployment is clearly concerning, but we must be positive about the future and the next generation of regional business leaders coming through.

We work with the LEP and Chamber and would love to hear your views on how the private and public sector could play a wider part supporting job growth in North East England. Contact our recruitment team, email changeyourlife@richards252.sg-host.com
